[Mep-dev] Moblin Update

Hello everyone!

Here's a brief update on my experiences learning about and using Mobile Linux (Moblin), plus a question on how to do something.

I was able to download and run the "trial run" and the "development" images of Moblin as a "guest" on Atom Smash using VMware.

Here is what it looks like on the screen:

I attempted to download, compile and run the sample application (a clutter-based hello world type of application). However, I attempted to do this with the wrong image - I was using the trial run instead of the development image. Oops! Pilot error. All sorts of dependencies and packalanche (package avalance) occurred. In the process of mucking about in this erroneous direction, I managed to injure Teller of Team Atom Smash. He'll be having some arthroscopic knee surgery in the near future in order to get back in the game.

Backing up and starting over on Gamow, I attempted to set up both development environments (on the linux workstation as well as within the development image) as described here:

http://moblin.org/documentation/moblin-sdk/create-new-application#dev-environment

Notice that to develop on a workstation, library alignment was highly recommended. Here is the list of libraries:

http://moblin.org/documentation/moblin-sdk/moblin-v2-development-libraries

This is a long list. Surely people don't align libraries by hand, do they? I am assuming that some sort of dummy package could be specified that would automagically install all these particular versions of these libraries.

Does anyone on the list have a suggestion or utility that would make library alignment easier for those of us working on MEP software for Atom Smash? The development image already has these libraries within it - the library alignment is needed for anyone that wants to develop for Moblin on a linux workstation.

More soon,
-Michelle W5NYV
