[Mep-dev] Found while searching for something else..

Hi James! Good question and good spotting - here's my take on it.

The key part of the description on his web site is "I have it connected to my Thinkpad Notebook using the internal sound card."

To me, this means it's probably a narrowband SDR system, since the soundcard on a PC limits the sampling rate.

Any SDR project is of interest. There are good ideas and lessons to be learned all over the place. However, we're talking about taking a big bandwidth step up from the class of SDR systems that are, for lack of a better term, "PC soundcard based".

Let's check out what he's done and see what we can learn.

The distinction between the archtypical "PC soundcard based" SDR system and MEP is primarily one of bandwidth. The basic idea (sample and hold, process and present to operator) is the same. However, at microwave frequencies, we are able to support a much wider bandwidth.

More soon,
-Michelle

Subject: [Mep-dev] Found while searching for something else..

Something that I found while searching for parts to repair
a project here and I stumbled across this link:

http://wb6dhw.com/

>From what I have read on his site, he had developed a five
board SDR a few years ago.

This link gives links to more documentation about the boards:

Is this something that should be looked into to revive or is this
old technology that has had parts become obsolete?

James W8ISS
