Greetings=A0to the list!=0A=0AI have some progress to report on discovery a=
nd antennas. First, the antenna update.=0A=0AI had a meeting last week with=
=A0an engineer=A0at a local=A0wireless company that is interested in helpin=
g with the groundsat (repeater)=A0antenna. His name is Ernie Ozaki, and he'=
s worked on radar, cellular, and other systems. He=A0recommended a book cal=
led Introduction to Adaptive Arrays by Robert A. Monzingo and Thomas W. Mil=
ler (to keep me off the streets and out of trouble), and is very interested=
in seeing what we come up with for antenna requirements. This brings the a=
ntenna crew up=A0to=A0just shy of a half dozen. In order to draft the anten=
na requirements, we need to settle some of the open issues about the link b=
udget. I'd like to walk through what we know and don't know next week, and =
then take a stab at doing a terrestrial link analysis. Back of envelope so =
far indicates that 10W is total overkill for 10MHz bandwidth, which is grea=
t news. I'd like to work up a document that clearly states just how fast an=
d far we can expect to go. =0A=0ANext,=A0station discovery - I wrote Bob Br=
uninga about using APRS for discovery and received a lot of feedback. =0A=
=0AThe draft discovery document is up on the website and in the feed:=0A=0A=
http://www.delmarnorth.com/microwave/overview/TAPRArticleNovember2008v2.pdf=
=0A=0Aand will get revised to version 3 over the weekend. Thanks to Tim Sal=
o, Bob Bruninga,=A0and Paul Williamson for feedback - and=A0we am of course=
=A0looking for more! Read, and then let rip.=0A=0A(The title mentions TAPR,=
and the reason for that is becuase it was originally intended to be an art=
icle for TAPR Packet Status Register for November. A bit ambitious, but we =
might make the next issue, and get a wider review of the ideas and perhaps =
some takers for some tests and demos.)=0A=0AAnother event last week was the=
monthly San Bernardino Microwave Society meeting up in Corona. I bought so=
me hardware that will be modified for 10GHz, and collaborated a bit more on=
the transverters intended for MEP prototyping.=0A=0AWelcome to all the new=
people on the list and in the project. If you haven't introduced yourself =
already, please feel free to do so. =0A=0AMore soon!=0A-Michelle W5NYV
