[Mep-dev] Conceptual Block Diagram for review

Weather proofing is not the only issue. Boxes mounted outside are subjected
to extreme thermal cycles. While building to a more rugged environment is
not out of our grasp - do we really want to subject amateur class hardware
to that requirement? I have always been an advocate of pushing *specific*
smarts to the antenna *if* it buys us significant savings on the
transmission line complexity. If it buys us nothing, pushing it outside just
costs more money and increases maintenance and development complexity.

The only problem I see here is weather proofing the equipment enough
so as that it doesn't get ruined by the weather or bugs ( wasps or bees)
taking over the eqiupment box.
One other problem might be for people like me that are in areas where
the temperature dips real low ( below 0 degrees ) for days at times.
How do you keep it at a stable temperature without a processor or chips
cracking from the temperature changes?

I would like to see the units as close to the antennas as possible so
as to cut down on feedline losses and such. Power over Ethernet (POE)
might be a good idea for the digital portion, but POE wouldn't be able
to handle the power requirements for the LNB/LNA/LNBF/transverters/
amplifiers that might be used.So you would need to run power cables for
those anyways.
